Podiatrists offer more than you may realise

Yes, A health professional that is entirely dedicated to feet! You might be surprised at how much a podiatrist can help you.

Traditionally, Podiatrists (Chiropodists) were and still are known for cutting nails, hard skin, removing corns, ingrown toenails and verrucas and generally maintaining healthy feet. This, however is just scratching the surface of a podiatrist’s scope of practice.

What may seem routine to a patient, may not to a podiatrist. A corn for example can be an indicator of pressure overload leading to bigger concerns such as muscle imbalances, joint instability or mobility issues – it’s not just because you walk funny or have a tight fitting pair of shoes.

If the corn is assessed correctly and kinetic changes are made, it may just prevent you from having a hip replacement later in life!

What else can we do?

Podiatrists can perform foot mobilisation to help improve joint mobility, assist with choosing the correct footwear, taping and strapping may also help for sore feet and weak ankles.

Paddings, insoles, modifications and orthotics inside footwear can help to stabilise your feet, enhance leg function, improve posture and strengthen the foundation of your body. Orthotics can also help relieve and redistribute pressure around the feet in a conservative way.

Unstable feet can result in aching feet, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, knee pain, hip soreness and even back pain. It is important to get your posture right from the ground up.

At Luckie Foot clinic we offer biomechanical gait analysis and pressure plate analysis to help deliver the best diagnosis and treatment plan.
